With the high cost of housing squeezing millennials’ budgets, a growing number of California couples are finding their first homes through ADUs. One just-married couple in Upland recently moved into a brand-new Spanish-style ADU, attached to the home of the groom’s father.
Saying I Do to the ADU
When Jovani and Eirene got engaged, Jovani’s dad offered to convert the master bedroom wing of his house into a 1-bedroom ADU for the couple to live in — a wedding present for them. A Revival Homes partner contractor worked with the couple to design a neat, clean interior with plenty of natural light. The exterior fit seamlessly into the home’s existing Spanish style, with a new separate entrance and attractive landscaping.
Jovani and Eirene were happy to have the opportunity to live so close to Jovani’s dad. The Finished Product
The 550-square foot home has a spacious kitchen with modern appliances. The bedroom is large enough to double as a home office and music room — Jovani is a guitar player, while Eirene is a pianist. The bathroom is simple but neat, with clever use of shower tiles to create a small accent wall. The ADU has been a perfect first home for the happy couple.
